ChatGPT Gets Real-Time Voice, Video Understanding, and Deep Research Mode: Everything New in June 2026
OpenAI has shipped a massive feature update for ChatGPT in June 2026, delivering capabilities that push the AI assistant closer to being a truly multimodal, always-on companion. The three headline additions — real-time voice with emotional nuance, video understanding, and an automated Deep Research mode — are now rolling out to Plus and Enterprise subscribers globally, including users in the Netherlands.
Real-Time Voice That Actually Sounds Human
ChatGPT’s upgraded voice mode now handles natural interruptions, varying speech speeds, and emotional tone. You can pause mid-sentence to think, and the model waits — just like a human conversation partner. It can whisper, express excitement, or adopt a calm, professional tone depending on context.
For Dutch users, English-language voice mode works seamlessly, but OpenAI has also improved Dutch-language pronunciation and understanding. While not yet at native-speaker fluency, the model can now hold extended conversations in Dutch with far fewer grammatical slips than earlier versions.
Video Understanding: Point Your Camera, Ask a Question
The new live video mode lets users share their camera feed with ChatGPT in real time. Point your phone at a broken appliance, a landmark in The Hague, or a document in Dutch, and ChatGPT can analyze what it sees and respond conversationally. Early testers have used it for real-time translation of menus, DIY repair guidance, and even identifying bird species in Scheveningen’s dune reserves.
Privacy safeguards are built in: video streams are processed in real time and not stored by default. Users must explicitly opt in to save video sessions for later reference.
Deep Research: Autonomous Multi-Step Investigation
Perhaps the most transformative addition is Deep Research, an agentic mode where ChatGPT autonomously browses the web, reads articles, cross-references sources, and compiles a structured research report — all without the user having to prompt each step. A task that might take a human several hours (like “research the impact of the EU AI Act on Dutch startups”) can be completed in minutes.
Deep Research cites its sources transparently, and users can ask follow-up questions or request revisions. The feature is currently available to ChatGPT Pro and Team subscribers, with a usage cap of 100 deep research queries per month.
What It Costs and How to Access
All three features are included in the ChatGPT Plus subscription (€22/month in the Netherlands). The video and real-time voice features are available on the iOS and Android apps; Deep Research works on both mobile and desktop. OpenAI has also introduced a new €220/month Pro tier with unlimited Deep Research queries and priority access during peak times.
