Amsterdam’s AI Hub ‘The Stack’ Set to Open September 2026
Amsterdam is gearing up to welcome one of Europe’s most ambitious artificial intelligence hubs. The Stack, a sprawling co-working and research facility dedicated entirely to AI innovation, is on track to open its doors in September 2026. Located in the heart of Amsterdam’s thriving tech district, the project has already attracted attention from investors, universities, and tech companies across the continent.
The 15,000-square-metre facility will house over 80 AI startups, research labs from the University of Amsterdam and TU Delft, and dedicated spaces for corporate innovation teams. Backed by a €120 million mix of public and private funding — including contributions from the Dutch government’s National Growth Fund — The Stack aims to position the Netherlands as a top-tier destination for artificial intelligence development in Europe.
“This is not just another co-working space. We’re building a complete ecosystem where researchers, founders, and enterprise teams work side by side on real AI problems,” said project director Maarten de Vries in a press briefing. “Amsterdam already has the talent density. What was missing was a physical anchor point. The Stack fills that gap.”
What Makes The Stack Different
Unlike generic tech incubators, The Stack is purpose-built for AI workloads. The facility includes an on-site GPU cluster with over 2,000 NVIDIA H200 chips, available to resident startups at subsidised rates. There are dedicated robotics labs, a synthetic data generation studio, and what the organisers call an “AI safety sandbox” — an isolated environment where companies can test models against the EU AI Act’s forthcoming requirements before deployment.
The hub also features a public-facing AI exhibition space designed to demystify artificial intelligence for the general public. School groups, policymakers, and curious citizens will be able to interact with live demonstrations of machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing systems.
Startup Interest Already High
Despite being months away from opening, The Stack has already received over 200 applications for its 80 resident spots. Priority is being given to startups working on climate tech, healthcare AI, and financial technology — three sectors the Dutch government has identified as strategic priorities. International applicants from the UK, Germany, and France account for nearly 40 per cent of the applicant pool, signalling strong cross-border interest.
Resident companies will benefit from a streamlined visa pathway negotiated with the Dutch immigration service, making it easier for non-EU founders and engineers to relocate. The package includes housing assistance, Dutch language courses, and a dedicated concierge service for navigating the Netherlands’ business registration and tax systems.
Amsterdam’s Growing AI Ecosystem
The Stack is the latest in a series of developments cementing Amsterdam’s reputation as an AI hotspot. The city is already home to Qualcomm’s European AI research centre, several Google DeepMind satellite teams, and a cluster of homegrown successes like Zeta Alpha and Datasnipper. Combined with excellent digital infrastructure and a high English proficiency rate, Amsterdam has become an increasingly attractive alternative to London and Berlin for AI talent.
With The Stack opening its doors in just a few months, the Dutch capital is poised to climb even higher in Europe’s AI rankings. For startups looking for a launchpad into the European market — and for investors seeking the next wave of AI breakthroughs — Amsterdam in late 2026 will be a very interesting place to be.
