The techno festival Hive is moving indoors this weekend, with a large rave in the Leipziger Messehallen, the exhibition halls of Leipzig’s trade fair grounds. According to MDR, the regional public broadcaster for central Germany, all 25,000 tickets sold out quickly before the event.
What happened
MDR reports that Hive, a techno festival, is “taking the leap indoors” under the name Hive Indoor. For the weekend, the Leipziger Messehallen will be turned into one dance floor for what the broadcaster calls a “Mega-Rave”. MDR says the 25,000 tickets on offer sold out quickly in advance.
The report is a short video clip in the MDR Mediathek, the broadcaster’s online video library. It appears alongside episodes of MDR SACHSENSPIEGEL, the regional evening news programme for Saxony, including the edition of 17 October. The clip page gives no further details: no line-up, opening times, admission rules or travel advice.
Moving a festival into the exhibition halls is a notable step for Leipzig’s club and music scene. The Messehallen usually host trade fairs and large public exhibitions. Using them as a rave venue brings a crowd of tens of thousands to one site over a single weekend.
What it means for you
If you have no ticket, you will not be able to get in through the normal sale. MDR says the event is sold out. Be careful if you see tickets offered on social media or resale sites. A sold-out event attracts fake and duplicate tickets, so if you do look for a resale ticket, use only the channels the organisers officially name.
If you have a ticket, check the organiser’s own website and social media accounts for entry times, bag rules, identity checks and any items not allowed in. The MDR report does not cover these points, so the organiser is the place to confirm them.
If you live near the trade fair grounds or travel through the area, expect more people and traffic than usual around the Messehallen over the weekend, given the 25,000 tickets sold. Allow extra time for journeys in that part of the city and check public transport updates before you leave.
Weather matters for queues and the trip home. MDR’s forecast for Saxony for Sunday 18 October says the day starts dull and clears up a little later, with temperatures reaching only 14 degrees at most. If you go, bring a layer for waiting outside and for the late journey back.
The MDR SACHSENSPIEGEL edition of 13 October also ran a report headlined “Alkoholverbot auf Bahnhöfen ab Donnerstag”, meaning a ban on alcohol at railway stations starting on Thursday. The clip page gives no details on which stations are covered or for how long. If you plan to travel to or from the rave by train, check the current rules at the stations you will use.
What to watch next
The main open question is whether Hive Indoor becomes a regular fixture in Leipzig’s calendar. MDR describes the move indoors as a leap for the festival. How this first edition in the Messehallen goes will probably decide whether the format comes back. A quick sell-out of 25,000 tickets suggests strong demand, so if you want to attend a future edition, follow the organiser’s announcements so you are ready when tickets go on sale.
Any reports after the weekend on crowds, transport or the running of the event will help show how well the trade fair grounds work as a venue for events of this kind.
