Veilig Thuis kept three children hidden from their parents without a judge’s approval
Veilig Thuis, the Dutch advice and reporting centre for domestic violence and child abuse, placed three children at a location kept secret from their parents. It did this without the authorisation from a judge that the law requires, the newspaper Trouw reported. If you are raising children in the Netherlands, this is a reminder that youth care agencies are bound by legal procedures, and that parents can challenge decisions taken outside them.

Health inspectorate warns against condoms recalled in France
The Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) has advised consumers in the Netherlands not to use condoms recalled by the French regulator, because they tear too easily. Last Friday the French authority recalled seven million condoms across the European Union. They are ultra-thin condoms from at least ten brands, including Vitalis, Releaf, Einhorn and My Lubie. Some of these brands are on sale in the Netherlands, mainly through online shops, so check any recent online purchases.

The case for letting clover take over your lawn
Omroep West asked Myra van der Meulen, urban ecologist for Pijnacker-Nootdorp near The Hague, how likely you are to find a four-leaf clover. Some people dislike clover in their lawn, but the plant has many useful qualities. If you have a garden, that may be a reason to leave it alone.
