Weekend Plans Sorted
Whether you’re a local or visiting for the weekend, The Hague offers more than enough to fill 48 hours. From museums to markets, beaches to breweries — here’s what’s worth your time in June 2026.
Saturday Morning: Mauritshuis & Binnenhof
Start at the Mauritshuis (open 10:00-18:00, €17.50) to see Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring and Rembrandt’s The Anatomy Lesson. It’s small enough to do in 90 minutes. Then walk through the historic Binnenhof — currently under renovation but the courtyard and surrounding streets are still stunning.
Saturday Afternoon: Haagse Markt & Food
One of Europe’s largest outdoor markets, the Haagse Markt runs Monday-Saturday until 17:00. Grab lunch here — Surinamese broodjes, Turkish pizza, fresh stroopwafels. It’s chaotic and authentic. Budget €10-15 for a full meal.
Saturday Evening: Prinsestraat & Het Plein
Start with drinks on Het Plein — the terrace scene is at its best on summer weekends. Then walk up Prinsestraat for dinner. Deejazz does excellent Mediterranean small plates. Oker is perfect for modern Dutch cuisine. Both need weekend reservations.
Sunday Morning: Scheveningen Beach
Tram 1 or 9 gets you to Scheveningen in 15 minutes. Walk the pier (free), watch surfers at the northern beach, or visit the Sea Life aquarium (€18). The beach clubs serve breakfast with a view — Hart Beach is the best for morning coffee.
Sunday Afternoon: Museums & Parks
Choose between Escher in Het Paleis (mind-bending optical art, €12.50) or the Kunstmuseum Den Haag (Mondrian, modern art, €16). Both are world-class. Afterwards, walk through the Scheveningse Bosjes — a peaceful forest park between the city and beach.
Free Options
If you’re on a budget: the beach is free, the Haagse Markt is free to browse, the Binnenhof courtyard is free, and the Peace Palace visitor center is free (tours cost €12). Walking the Hofvijver lake path costs nothing and gives the best city photos.
Weather tip: The Hague weather changes fast. Bring layers and expect at least one rain shower — even in summer.
