Finding a Good Barber in The Hague
Whether you are new to the city or just tired of your current haircut, finding a reliable barber matters. The Hague has a surprisingly diverse barber scene, from old-school Dutch kappers to Turkish masters and trendy modern shops. After visiting dozens of barbers across the city and talking to locals, here are the seven that consistently deliver.
1. The Master Barbers — Statenkwartier
Located on Frederik Hendriklaan, The Master Barbers is widely considered the best premium barbershop in the city. They specialize in classic cuts, beard grooming, and hot towel shaves. The atmosphere is old-school gentlemen’s club with leather chairs and whiskey on offer. A standard cut costs €32-38 depending on the barber. Walk-ins are welcome but booking via their website is recommended, especially on Saturdays.
2. Kapsalon Ghazi — Transvaalkwartier
If you want a sharp fade or a skin taper, Ghazi on Paul Krugerlaan is where many locals go. This is a Turkish barber in the best sense — quick, precise, and affordable. A standard cut is €18, and they also do beard shaping for €10. The shop is no-frills but the skill level is high. Cash only, and expect to wait 15-20 minutes during peak hours.
3. Cut Throat Barber — City Center
On Torenstraat near the Grote Markt, Cut Throat is a modern barbershop with a rock-and-roll vibe. They are known for modern styles — textured crops, mullets, and creative fades. Prices start at €34 for a cut. They also offer a cut-and-beard package for €49. Their online booking system is easy to use and they are open until 19:00 on weekdays.
4. Kapper Eric — Regentessekwartier
Eric has been cutting hair on Regentesselaan for over 20 years. This is a traditional Dutch barber where you go for a straightforward, clean cut without the hype. He knows what works for Dutch weather and lifestyle. A men’s cut is €22. No appointment needed — just walk in and wait your turn. The shop is old-fashioned in the best way, with local newspapers and genuine conversation.
5. The Hangout Barbershop — Zeeheldenkwartier
Part barbershop, part community space, The Hangout on Prins Hendrikstraat attracts a younger crowd. They serve coffee while you wait and have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Cuts are €28-35. They are particularly good with curly and wavy hair, which can be hard to find in The Hague. Booking via their Instagram DM or website.
6. Haarmode Mo — Schilderswijk
Mo runs a small shop on Hoefkade that is popular with the neighborhood’s diverse community. He handles all hair types exceptionally well — from straight European hair to tight curls and coils. A standard cut is €15, making it one of the best value barbers in The Hague. No English website, but you can just walk in and show a photo of what you want.
7. Barberios — Bezuidenhout
On Theresiastraat, Barberios is a clean, modern shop that is popular with expats and internationals. The barbers speak excellent English and are used to working with different hair textures. A standard cut is €29. They are open Monday through Saturday and take both walk-ins and online bookings. Their beard grooming service (€18) includes a hot towel treatment.
What to Expect at a Dutch Barber
Most barbers in The Hague charge between €15 and €38 for a standard men’s cut. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory — rounding up to the nearest €5 is common. Many shops are closed on Sundays and Mondays. If you are looking for something specific, bringing a photo on your phone is always a good idea, even if there is a language barrier.
