Google is adding a dedicated student hub to Gemini just in time for back-to-school season. The company announced the feature on August 19 as part of a broader push to turn its chatbot into a study companion.

The new hub works as a one-stop workspace for students. It collects research in a study notebook, creates flashcards, and runs practice quizzes. Google has also upgraded those notebooks to support graphs and images. A student can feed a syllabus into Gemini and let the app add test dates and deadlines straight to Google Calendar.

Deep Research is now part of Gemini Live. A student can ask for a detailed report and then talk through the results with the assistant. There is no need to keep the phone open while it works. Users can close the chat and lock the screen, and Gemini will send a notice when the report is ready.

Google is also bringing Lens into the mix. In the coming weeks, a new feature in the Google mobile app will let students photograph a worksheet or study page. The app then explains difficult concepts, offers help, and even coaches the student when a mistake shows up.

The free tier varies by location. Eligible students in the United States get one year of Google AI Pro at no cost. That plan includes 5TB of storage, Google Health Premium, higher Gemini usage limits, and access to Gemini across Google apps. Students outside the US get the smaller Google AI Plus plan with 400GB of storage and lower caps.

The move puts Google in direct competition with other AI tools aimed at classrooms. Schools have already started writing their own rules around AI this year, as mylistingo reported. The bet is clear: students who learn to study inside Gemini now are likely to stay inside Google’s ecosystem later.
