Anthropic is giving its Claude assistant deeper reach into Google’s productivity tools. The company’s Google Workspace connectors can now send emails in Gmail and manage files in Google Drive. The change arrived as part of a pair of announcements made on August 18th.
Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s AI agent platform, is also reaching more people. Access to Cowork on mobile and web interfaces has rolled out to all paid accounts. Users can now keep an eye on what the agent is doing from more places. Before this change, Cowork was only available through the Claude desktop app.
The Workspace connectors let Claude act on everyday tools instead of just chatting. It can compose and send an email through a Gmail account. It can also organize and manage files stored in Google Drive. Anthropic says the goal is to let the assistant handle routine work without leaving the apps people already use.
The expansion signals Anthropic’s push to make Claude a practical work assistant. Rather than only answering questions in a chat window, Claude can now act on documents and messages. That puts it in closer competition with Google’s Gemini and Microsoft’s Copilot, both of which tie their assistants directly to office software.
Anthropic did not announce any pricing changes with the update. The company has moved quickly this year to add agent features across its lineup. Revenue momentum backs the push, with Anthropic’s business reportedly reaching a $65 billion annualized run rate.
The Gmail and Drive connectors build on the Workspace integration Anthropic introduced earlier this year. The company has been steadily closing the gap with its larger rivals in both assistant capability and day-to-day usefulness. Read the full details on The Verge.
