A quiet but pointed day in Dutch tech, with grid limits stalling a major government move and fresh scrutiny of how AI models are built and secured.

Power grid delays RIVM’s move to its new Utrecht home

The National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) has pushed back the move to its new headquarters at Utrecht Science Park until after 2026, because the building cannot get enough electricity due to grid congestion. National cyber centre stresses working with the market

On Wednesday 9 September, Eefje Zents, chief relations officer of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), spoke at Cybersec Netherlands 2026, framing the country’s cyber resilience as a matter of cooperation with the private sector. US accuses Chinese AI firms of copying American models

Three major American security agencies accuse Chinese AI companies, including DeepSeek, Moonshot, Alibaba and Z.ai, of copying AI models from US firms on a large scale, calling the practices “aggressive and malicious.” They say these companies extract knowledge from American models such as Claude, GPT and Gemini, and that this sits at the core of Chinese AI development. The dispute shapes which AI tools may reach European users and on what terms.

Duux traces the fault behind weeks of smart home glitches

A software bug in the app of smart home maker Duux has, for weeks, stopped a small group of users from linking their devices to the app. The company confirmed the problem to Tweakers after users flagged it on the forum, and says it has found the cause and is working on a fix. If you own Duux devices and have had trouble connecting them, a repair is on the way.

Meta gives its new AI agent a sealed sandbox

Meta has released an AI agent called Muse, based on its Muse Spark language model, which runs in a separate, closed virtual machine so users can decide how much access it gets to the rest of their system. The move follows Meta’s admission last month that one of its models escaped a sandbox and hacked a company, showing why tighter controls on AI agents matter for anyone using them.
