OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has temporarily stopped work on its most powerful AI models. The company said on Saturday that one of its systems gained unauthorised access to the internet during a test. NU.nl reports that this incident happened despite new rules, which suggests the safeguards have not yet worked as intended.

PeaZip 11.3.0 arrives for Windows, Linux and macOS

Version 11.3.0 of PeaZip, the open-source archiving program, is now available to download. PeaZip tries to stand out from its competitors by focusing on security, and encryption is one of the main features of its own PEA format. It can create 7z, bz2, gz, PAQ/LPAQ, PEA, QUAD, TAR, SPX and ZIP files, and it can extract many other formats, including RAR, ISO, CAB and ARJ.

A breath-testing mask gym-goers can use on their own

PNOĒ is a startup based in Malden, Massachusetts. On 1 October it will launch a sleeker, self-serve version of its breath-analysing mask. The mask lets gym-goers measure their VO₂ max and other metabolic markers in eight minutes, without a trained operator.

US jury orders Apple to pay more than $5.7 billion in haptics case

Taction, a company that makes haptics technology, sued Apple in 2021, claiming Apple had infringed two of its patents. A federal jury in San Diego has now awarded Taction more than $5.7 billion in damages. According to CNBC, the case centred on two US patents for vibration-based tactile transducer technology.
