Apple is finally bringing Apple Intelligence to China. The company announced the rollout on its Chinese newsroom website this week. MacRumors reported the news first, and it confirms a launch that has slipped several times.

The first features arrive in an iOS 27.3 beta on November 4th. A full public release of iOS 27.3 is scheduled for December. Apple has not said which iPhone models will get the tools on day one.

This launch does not include the rebuilt Siri. Instead, Apple is shipping several of its earlier Apple Intelligence features. The list covers notification summaries, real-time translation, writing and proofreading tools, visual intelligence, and the object removal tool in Photos.

Apple also worked with Alibaba to add support for its Qwen chatbot in some experiences. The arrangement sounds close to the ChatGPT integration Apple shipped in 2024. Chinese rules require a local partner for generative services, so the Qwen link is not optional.

The regulatory path has been slow. Apple Intelligence was approved in China in July, which signalled that a launch was getting close. Reuters reported in August that Apple had trained its own language model specifically for China with Alibaba’s help.

China matters a great deal to Apple’s balance sheet. It is one of the company’s largest markets, and iPhone sales there have been under pressure for two years. Local rivals like Huawei and Xiaomi have been shipping assistant features on their phones for a while now.

Shipping older tools first is a cautious choice. Notification summaries and translation are low-risk features. They help on the marketing side without touching the parts of a model that regulators watch most closely. The new Siri, which needs cloud processing and a broader knowledge base, still has no confirmed China date.

The beta will show how well the tools handle Mandarin and regional dialects. Apple has not published accuracy numbers, and reviewers will test that quickly. For now, Chinese iPhone owners get a partial version of an assistant the rest of the world has had since 2024.
