Apple will now let Siri AI perform actions inside third-party apps. The change arrives with the iOS 27.3 update, which began rolling out on Tuesday.
Apple told developers they can integrate Siri AI features in all apps. The assistant can draw on a user’s personal context, process natural language prompts, and use on-screen awareness to finish requests.
The release is part of a Developer Preview. It also introduces “app skills,” a feature that lets developers bundle several tasks into one action.
According to Apple’s developer documentation, users will not need to say an app’s name in every request. Siri AI understands the context while an app is in the foreground, during a Live Activity, or in an ongoing conversation.
Apple offers a ride-hailing example. A person could request a car, watch the Live Activity while waiting, then say “Hey Siri, change my ride pickup to a new address” without naming the app.
As 9to5Mac noted, Apple previously offered only a smaller set of features to third-party developers. This update widens that access considerably.
Siri AI is also reaching Apple’s own apps. The list includes Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts, and Weather.
Apple says users can ask for things like a coffee shop they visited last week. They can also archive files that have not been opened in over a year.
The move matters for developers who build habit apps, travel tools, and productivity software. A voice assistant that can act inside an app is far more useful than one that only opens it.
It also puts Apple in closer competition with Google and Amazon, both of which have spent years linking assistants to outside services. Apple’s version leans on on-device context instead of a single cloud pipeline.
Developers can start testing the new capabilities now. Full details are in The Verge’s report on the iOS 27.3 developer preview.
