Renewable energy workers protested outside parliament in Berlin, the CDU is debating how it should deal with the AfD, and Saxony’s airports are adding flights for the autumn holidays. It was a hard day in sport for fans in Frankfurt and Berlin.

Green energy workers take their protest to the Bundestag

Thousands of workers from Germany’s renewable energy sector demonstrated outside parliament in Berlin on Friday, joined by environmental activists. They oppose the conservative-led government’s plans to cut subsidies for the industry. The outcome matters to anyone working in the sector and to anyone who cares how Germany’s move to green power is paid for.

CDU leaders meet to debate their line on the AfD

The presidium (executive committee) of the CDU, the Christian Democratic Union, is holding a two-day closed meeting to discuss what to do after its recent election defeats. One question is becoming more and more central: whether the party should change how it deals with the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland), a far-right party. Any change would affect how majorities are formed in German politics.
