Albert Heijn hack: why filing a police report is not automatic

Albert Heijn has had empty shelves and disruption for days, but the police have not yet opened an investigation into the attack. Earlier this week NOS reported a hack or a serious attempt at one. The supermarket calls it a “cybersecurity incident” and says it is working with “all relevant authorities”. Yesterday the public prosecution service invited parent company Ahold to file a police report, which raises the question of when reporting a cyberattack helps a company and when it does not. As the headline puts it, the “golden hour” matters after a hack as much as after any other crime.

Geertruida has become one of the first names on PSV’s team sheet

PSV coach Peter Bosz has again praised Lutsharel Geertruida, pointing to the defender’s intelligence, physical strength, ability on the ball and positive role in the squad. Geertruida is on loan from RB Leipzig. The defender missed last weekend’s match against sc Heerenveen but started against Leipzig, the parent club, in midweek. Former Netherlands international and coach Hedwiges Maduro also sees Geertruida as an obvious starter, and the article singles out an ability to read danger that, in the headline’s words, “not many players have”.

DayZ creator makes game-engine framework Brutal public

Dean Hall, the game developer best known for DayZ, has made Brutal, a C# framework for building game engines, available to everyone. The release comes shortly after RimWorld moved to a new engine built with Brutal. It uses a custom licence that allows commercial use as long as Brutal is credited, so small studios get a free option with few conditions attached.

Over the Hill: a good-looking off-road game with little to do

Tweakers has reviewed Over the Hill, which takes the mud-driving genre and gives it a low-poly look with plenty of atmosphere. The reviewer found that this simpler approach costs the game some of the depth the genre needs. It may appeal if you want a relaxed drive more than a demanding challenge.

Apple shows its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo

Apple has announced the iPhone Duo, its long-rumoured foldable, with a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. The inner screen has a “nano-texture” finish and almost no visible crease. Instead of Face ID, it unlocks with Touch ID on the power button.

Mark Wahlberg plans a budget gym built around longevity

Mark Wahlberg, who once invested in a gym chain that was removed from the NYSE, is now building a gym concept of their own. The pitch is a cold plunge, a blood panel and a protein muffin at a price ordinary members can afford, aimed squarely at the expensive longevity startups.
