Estate agents face a mandatory register
The government plans to set up a mandatory register of real estate agents, along with a complaints desk for buyers. For internationals buying a home, often with an agent they do not know personally, a register and a clear place to file a complaint would make it easier to check who you are dealing with.

In the Rotterdam region, a mayor has closed a car business following an explosion, according to Rijnmond’s emergency news blog for 1 October. In a separate incident, police arrested a cyclist after a collision with a motorist.

Noordwijk council chamber renovation runs 5 million over budget
In Noordwijk, the mayor and aldermen announced on Monday that renovating the council chamber will cost around five million euros more than expected. Local politicians were shocked by the figure, and one asked whether anyone had thought about the chairs and tables. Cost overruns like this are paid out of the municipal budget, which residents help fund.
