Suno Studio 2.0 Adds MIDI and a Chatbot to Compete With Real DAWs

Suno is pushing its music tool closer to a real digital audio workstation. The company released Studio 2.0 with a large set of upgrades. The goal is to look less like a bare-bones AI audio editor and more like the software working musicians already use.

The biggest addition is MIDI support. Suno says MIDI was its most requested feature. It is basically a requirement for any modern DAW. There is a catch, though. Suno Studio does not support third-party plugins or VSTs yet. Users are stuck with Suno’s built-in synth for now. That synth is a basic two-oscillator wavetable instrument with three envelopes and four LFOs.

The point is not about using a favorite Arturia vintage synth emulation. It is about using MIDI data as a prompt. You can play in some chords, then ask Suno to turn that MIDI into audio. You can extend a melody or write a B-part from what you played. Studio 2.0 also adds automation, so you can pan and change volume on individual tracks across the arrangement.

Suno is also adding a chatbot inside the Studio. You can prompt it for lyrics or a new guitar line. It is not a separate generator. It is tied into the current session and pulls in the musical context of your project.

The move matters because AI music tools face a lot of doubt. Critics still question how the models were trained. But a more professional tool could win over working musicians. Suno is betting that real controls, not just text prompts, will get more people to take the platform seriously.

Whether a built-in synth and a chatbot are enough remains to be seen. The gap between Studio 2.0 and tools like Ableton or Logic is still wide. The Verge has the full breakdown of what changed.

AI is reshaping how music gets made. Read how Spotify is adding Merlin to its AI remix and covers push.
