Microsoft is pulling its yellow blob mascot from Copilot. The character, named Mico, will no longer appear when people use the chatbot’s voice mode. Microsoft confirmed the change on a support page this week.

Mico launched in Copilot’s voice mode last October. At the time, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman pitched the avatar as a way to give the chatbot an identity. The blob reacted to speech in real time with facial expressions and animations.

The mascot is not disappearing entirely. Microsoft plans to move Mico to its Learn Live platform. There, the company says, the avatar will have more to react to.

Mico now joins a long list of retired Microsoft helpers. Clippy, Cortana, and Rover all came and went before it. “Mico helped us learn about warmth, expressiveness, and how people want to talk with AI,” the support page reads. “Those learnings are shaping Copilot going forward.” Microsoft says it is removing Mico in waves.

The move fits into a broader Copilot reshuffle. Microsoft is merging its Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot apps into a single product. It also comes months after an AI leadership change that put Jacob Andreou in charge of Copilot. Suleyman shifted his focus to building new AI models instead.

Mico’s short life shows how fast Microsoft is changing its AI strategy. The company spent months building a friendly face for Copilot. Now it is betting that a cleaner, simpler product matters more than a mascot.
