Midjourney has made an unexpected move into the world of personalized astrology. The AI startup, best known for its image generation models, announced on Thursday that it has acquired Co-Star, the popular astrology app that delivers daily horoscopes and compatibility insights to millions of users.

The terms of the deal, which reportedly closed earlier this spring, have not been disclosed. But the acquisition signals Midjourney’s ambition to expand beyond its current web-and-Discord-based tools into dedicated consumer applications.

Co-Star combines data from NASA, insights from human astrologers, and artificial intelligence to generate personalized guidance for its users. The free app has built a loyal following by turning birth chart data into bite-sized daily advice — a format that fits neatly into Midjourney’s vision of AI-powered personalization.

Midjourney founder David Holz confirmed that Co-Star founder Banu Guler will continue to lead the astrology app after the acquisition. Guler will also take on a new role as Midjourney’s chief design officer, bringing her experience in crafting consumer-facing experiences to the AI company.

According to Bloomberg, Holz said Guler and her team will play a central role in building Midjourney’s first standalone apps, including one dedicated to image generation. Currently, users access Midjourney’s models exclusively through its website or Discord bots — a setup that has worked for early adopters but limits mainstream reach.

The move into consumer apps marks a turning point for Midjourney. The company has steadily expanded from generating whimsical AI art to powering more serious applications, including medical imaging. With Co-Star’s design talent now in-house, Midjourney appears ready to compete directly with OpenAI, Google, and other AI firms that already offer polished mobile and desktop experiences.
