Perplexity’s Personal Computer Expands to Windows, Bringing AI Agents to the Desktop

Perplexity has expanded its agentic Personal Computer tool to Windows, allowing the world’s most popular operating system to function as a locally-run AI system. The launch builds on the Mac version released in April and Microsoft 365 integrations from May.

The tool operates as a “general-purpose digital worker” that can access local files and applications to perform actions on your behalf — like creating documents, updating spreadsheets, and managing files. Unlike cloud-only AI assistants, Personal Computer for Windows runs directly inside the Windows environment, reaching into enterprise workflows that Perplexity says have been “out of AI’s reach.”

“Now Microsoft users can ask Computer to work across their local files, Microsoft Office 365, and the web in one place,” the company said in its announcement. “It’s built for the often messy way enterprise work gets done on local machines.”

The tool is rolling out to paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers, with tiers starting at $200 per month. Perplexity emphasized that the tool does not train on company data and always notifies users before performing sensitive actions like sending emails or deleting files.

The Windows expansion signals growing competition in the AI agent space, where companies like Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic are all racing to put AI assistants directly onto users’ desktops. Perplexity’s advantage may lie in its cross-platform approach — the same agentic system now spans Mac, Windows, and web environments.
